| Spelling Bee Winners Advance
Sixty-one students from Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogancounties have advanced to the North Central Washington (NCW) Regional Spelling Bee. Fourth- through eighth-grade students competed in local spelling bees with the top two students from each school building advancing to the regional event.
The NCW Regional Spelling Bee will occur at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 20th at Eastmont Jr. High in E. Wenatchee. The first place finishers will advance to the national round in Washington DClater this spring. The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) is the sponsor of the North Central Washington Regional Spelling Bee.
Local Spelling Bee Finalists:
Fourth grade: Asher Neuneker, Bridgeport Elementary School andCaiden Price, Mansfield School.
Fifth grade; Ivette Orozco, Bridgeport Elementary School, KaleePeterman, Mansfield School. Cailin Chandler, Methow ValleyElementary School,
Sixth grade: Ian Dodson, Bridgeport Middle School. Liliana, Hart-Beck, Methow Valley Elementary School, Winthrop;
Eight grade: Eva Aneshansley and Haley Holliday, Chelan Middle School, and Jonathan Toga, Bridgeport Middle School,Bridgeport.
The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) is the charity of the tree fruit industry. Founded in 1994, WAEF coordinates, promotes and develops charitable activities reflecting tree fruit industry member priorities. The organization is best known for its scholarship program. In 2011 WAEF awarded $425,000 in scholarship aid to students raised in tree fruit industry communities.
