Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is taking drastic measures to help reduce operating costs due to budget constraints.S
heriff Harvey Gjesdal says that over time the department has been working to keep costs down, however with the rise in fuel and overtime costs, they are now forced to take actions they have not previously had to enforce.
Gjesdal adds that the newest round of cutbacks, which took effect February 1st, has been the most severe.
Gjesdal adds that over the past year, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has implemented several money saving practices, however, they just aren’t enough to face the financial challenges.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department does run as an independent entity, however, their operating budget comes from the Douglas County Commissioners as part of the Douglas County General Fund.
