After receiving a phone call on Second Cup of Coffee, followed by several calls inquiring the reasons and laws behind Chelan County Sheriff Department’s vehicles being left running while unattended, KOZI looked to Chelan County Sheriff Sergeant, Rob Huddleston for some answers.
Huddleston says the deputies are well aware of the public perception behind the idling vehicles, but explains that their vehicles serve as their “mobile offices”.
The state of Washington does not have a state law prohibiting idling, however, the City of Spokane prohibits unnecessary and unattended idling with the exception of police, sheriff or other law enforcement vehicles, as well as fire and emergency vehicles.
