The Chelan CountyPUD is celebrating a more than 17 million dollar surplus in 2011. The commissioners were told the news during their Monday meeting.
The unexpected results come as a surprise after two years of drought and recession left the PUD more than $28 in the red and market prices for excess electricity hit an all time low.
ChelanCounty PUD Commissioner Carnan Bergren says the financial gain is a result of remaining disciplined in its financial policies and capitalizing on a good water year.
The PUD plans to continue the fiscal discipline that contributed to the good results so they can continue to pay down debt, save money for unexpected future expenses and keep rate increases low and predictable.
