This week is Burn Awareness week and the Office of the State Fire Marshal is emphasizing a theme of scald burns.
Scald burns are caused by hot liquids, steam or foods and are very painful. These burns affect all ages and may result in lifelong scarring and even death.
More than 250,000 people are treated annually in the US and Canada for scald burns.
Most scald burns occur in the kitchen or bathroom and are the second leading cause of death of children newborn to 4 years of age in WashingtonState.
Deputy State Fire Marshal, Esther Hernandez says that as part of Burn Awareness Week, the State Fire Marshal’s Office is offering some safety tips.
