After Douglas and ChelanCounty Commissioners denied support for seeking a regional .2 percent sales increase a new plan was put on the table.
That plan would seek a “layered” tax for the nine entities that make up the Greater Wenatchee Regional Events Center Public Facilities District, - with Wenatchee kicking in the highest percentage.
The new plan has the City of Wenatchee implementing the .2 percent sales tax and selling bonds, while the other 8 jurisdictions go with a smaller, .15 percent sales tax.
The problem: it requires State Legislature approval.
Officials from the 8 entities have indicated they may support the smaller tax increase, provided it works its way through the house for a full vote, however Chelan City Council members are holding off for now.
In a meeting last night, the council decided to wait until more information is made available before making the decision.
