Carbon Monoxide is the number one cause of poisoning deaths in the United States. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, there are approximately 2,100 unintentional deaths from carbon monoxide every year in the US.
We turned to Lieutenant Pat Moore with Chelan County Fire District 7 for some ideas and tips to help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
Most people recover completely after a carbon monoxide poisoning but in severe cases, symptoms can persist for many weeks or even months afterwards and can cause permanent brain damage or damage to the heart.
