Organizations from Chelan and Okanogan Counties received word they will be awarded a total of nearly $2 million dollars by the Washington Salmon Recovery Funding Board to fund projects that help with—you guessed it, salmon recovery.
The grant funds awarded to local organizations will not only provide much needed money to help individual salmon recovery projects, but will also create jobs.
Susan Zemek, spokesman for the State of Washington Salmon Recovery Funding Board, says $30 million will be awarded to projects in 28 counties across the state.
That includes three organizations in ChelanCounty, and three in OkanoganCounty.
Zemek expects the funds to be available in the next month and anticipates the projects to take place over the next four months.
KOZI will bring you a more in depth look at some of those local projects next week.
