The Chelan City Council held their last scheduled meeting of the year last Thursday night, and as expected, the public hearing on the continuance of medical marijuana moratorium proved to be a lively discussion.
The council heard attorneys, doctors and members of the community asking them to lift the moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries and collective medical marijuana gardens within city limits.
After listening to nearly 90 minutes of public testimony the council voted to continue the moratorium for six months, but not before making some changes to the language in the moratorium and directing staff to “fast trac” the process and include the public in the decision making process.
Craig Gildroy, City Planning Director, says his department will use these six months to study the issue but for right now the moratorium remains in place.
Chelan Mayor, Bob Goedde, says before the council adjourned for the year, they wrapped up loose ends and called it a night.
The Chelan City Council meets next at 6 PM, Thursday January 12th, 2012.
