The Department of Ecology issued a burn ban for Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties for health reasons as polluted air is being trapped in our region.
Seth Preston, spokesman for Washington Department of Ecology’s Air Quality Program, says the current ban is scheduled to last through Friday, but will likely be extended beyond that.
Our region is currently under a stage 1 ban, and Preston says it is possible that it could be elevated to a stage 2 ban.
With the current poor air quality, Preston says that people with health problems should take precautions and adds that there are several things you can do to help our current air quality problem, including not idling your vehicle and following the ban.
