Shoreline Stabilization Project Hits Snag 11/22/2011
After applying and being awarded two grants last summer, the City of Chelan has hit a snag in the Shoreline stabilization project to restore Don Morse Park.

After applying and being awarded two grants last summer, the City of Chelan has hit a snag in the Shoreline stabilization project to restore Don Morse Park.

The retaining wall is giving out.

Both grants required matching funds, costing the City of Chelan 1.7 million dollars to allow them to spend 3.2 million, but as with many grants, the money comes with restrictions.

Chelan Parks and Recreation Director, Charles Seblan, says if they are able to complete the intended projects with money left over, they may be able to use it to repair the failing wall.

Seblan says they won’t know if they will have any funds left until after the bids come back from the contractors. He is hopeful that they will have money after the grant funded areas are finished.

Seblan says his department will seek authorization to put it out to bid at the December 8th council meeting and expects to have answers in January.
