Longtime Chelan community member and owner of Kelly’s Ace Hardware, Gene Kelly, will be honored tomorrow at Eastern Washington University during their Hall of Fame ceremony.

Kelly was a member of the 1949-1950 men’s basketball team, a team that legendary head coach Red Reese later named his best ever basketball team.

KOZI spoke with Dave Cook, Sports Information Director for EWU, and he says they are excited to have Kelly visit the campus in Cheney and gives a few details about the 1949-1950 basketball season."CLICK HERE" for Audio

Cook added that Kelly was one of the top scorers on the team being inducted into the hall of fame.

Kelly does plan to attend the ceremony and says he is looking forward to seeing some folks he hasn’t seen in a long time, though he is quick to point out that he is not being honored as an individual, it is a team honor.

The ceremony will be at 9AM tomorrow morning at the Pence Union Building, and the public is invited to attend. Inductees will also be honored at halftime of the EWU football game against Weber State, which begins at 12:35 PM.
