There’s really good news for boaters and other recreational users wanting to take advantage of the beautiful waters of Lake Chelan.
With the recent change of weather Chelan County PUD now say they expect the water level of Lake Chelan will hit its July 1 target of 1,098 feet.
The PUD has been keeping the lake elevation below seasonal norms to capture runoff from a lingering mountain snowpack that remains way above average. Scott Buehn, power resource engineer for the PUD, says a recent survey of snowpack sites has left him confident that refill of the lake is now safe.
Prolonged low lake levels this year have caused consternation among many. Boaters have been among the hardest hit, because low water made all but the launch in Manson unusable until recent weeks.
It’s also the livelihood for businesses that depend on lake tourism.
