Douglas County Drops Out of Regional Fire Plans 6/15/2011
Douglas County District Two has decided to drop out of plans to create a regional fire authority with Chelan County District One and the City of Wenatchee. There was concern its relatively smaller population would put the Douglas County Fire District at a disadvantage when it came to voting on issues area wide.

However, the bottom line for the Commissioners was cost. According to Commissioner Rich Adams, Douglas County Fire District Two residents now pay 67 cents per thousand, and studies have shown that amount could grow to $1.16 per thousand under the agreement.

Adams says the question of whether other shared aid agreements will be affected has yet to be addressed.
