The Damage of State Funding Cuts 6/9/2011
State funding cuts have reduced the Chelan and Douglas County Health District to a shell of its former self. Administrator Barry Kling says since he was first hired in 2003 staffing levels have been cut and many services have been eliminated. Coping has become the key word at the health district and it looks like the budget adopted by the legislature will cause additional stress for Kling, who says the full scope of cuts to be absorbed won’t be known until the Governor signs the budget in the next week.

Although they have found ways to get the job done with a sharply reduced budget, Kling finds it frustrating that the positive results of preventative care, both from a health and an economic standpoint tend to get overlooked during tight economic times.
