Charges in Good Samaritan Case 6/8/2011
Chelan County Prosecutor Gary Reisen says he is pursuing manslaughter charges in connection with the case of a Good Samaritan who died after he was punched by a motorist he was trying to help. Reisen understands people’s frustration with the nature of the case, however he feels extenuating circumstances make it the proper charge. The victim, Juan Guadalupe Garcia, died Saturday night at Central Washington Hospital after suffering a serious head injury. Police reported Garcia approached Gonzalez’s car last Friday afternoon after it appeared the vehicle was disabled and was struck by the man. Gonzalez then allegedly assaulted a police officer who tried to apprehend him. Reisen says it’s likely that Gonzalez will enter his plea to the charges about two weeks from now.
