Beebe Springs Park Getting Too Much Water 6/7/2011
Beebe Springs Park on Highway 97 near Chelan Falls has a common problem near the Columbia River these days…too much water.

The lower areas of the new wildlife area have been inundated by the rising water. Fish and Wildlife Project Biologist Ron Fox says it’s unfortunate but not necessarily unexpected and that the bridges in the park were actually designed to be underwater for a time if necessary.

High river flows have also closed the Kirby-Billingsley Park boat launch just south of East Wenatchee.

The approximately 200 acres of former orchard is being returned to its natural state at Beebe Springs as habitat for all kinds of wildlife, including fish, birds, beavers and deer. Fox says it’s uncertain at this point whether the area will be a fee park covered by the state’s new Discover Pass or will remain free in the long run.

In the meantime, they’ll have to wait until the water goes down to get an estimate of the damage done in the past month or so.
