For the second week in a row a tragic automobile accident has claimed lives on local roads. 72 year old Manson resident Betty Decker lost her life in a horrific head on vehicle collision yesterday afternoon on Hwy 97 two miles south of Beebe Bridge. Betty’s husband, 78 year old James Decker, was a passenger and suffered serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Lake Chelan Community Hospital. His current condition and location is unknown.
According to a WSP report Betty Decker was driving southbound on the highway when a northbound vehicle crossed the centerline colliding with her vehicle at highway speed. The driver of the northbound vehicle was killed as well. That drivers name is being withheld pending notification of the family.
WSP records indicate the accident occurred just before 4 PM yesterday and closed the highway both directions for several hours. Chelan Fire and Rescue and Chelan EMS were first responders establishing scene command, later transferring command to Douglas Fire District 4 of Orondo.
The WSP report indicates neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the accident and no charges will be filed.
