Chelan County Sheriff’s search and Rescue successfully located and extracted a 21 year old male hiker overdue into Holden Village from the Lake Wenatchee area.
Ezra Thompson of Minnesota left from the Nason Creek trailhead off Stevens Pass on the morning of Wednesday May 25th. Thompson was expected to arrive in Holden Village Tuesday evening where he has a summer job clearing trails. When he failed to show up, officials at Holden notified the sheriff’s office.
Poor weather prohibited a helicopter search on Wednesday but yesterday at 9 AM the Sheriffs Department helicopter spotted Thompson stranded on a ledge. His precarious location prohibited the use of a helicopter hoist for extraction which left SAR with the task of reaching him on foot.
Rescue crews reached him yesterday afternoon and he was eventually flown by helicopter back to Wenatchee. He appeared to be in good spirits and good health.
This is the second search and rescue mission involving CCSO personnel in the last month. On May 17th A Washington State Patrol trooper missing for three days in the same general area was found unharmed by Snohomish County Search and Rescue.
