DOT Working in Overdrive 5/25/2011
The Department of Transportation has been working in overdrive to complete area projects in anticipation of the summer crowds.

The North Cascades Highway is scheduled to open at noon today. The crews have constantly been challenged in their efforts to clear the highway by avalanches and weather D.O.T.’s Jeff Adamson described as record breaking. In the Chelan area, it may be two weeks and countless headaches overdue but Adamson is happy to announce the end of the Rock Point stabilization project on the Manson Highway. The highway is open to traffic without restrictions until 2 hours worth of work Thursday morning work, and then they’re done with what turned out to be a 12 week project.

Drivers in the Pateros and Twisp areas may find it slow going today due to some clean up work on a bridge on Highway 153 from recent flooding. Adamson says the problem could be compounded by the increased traffic headed for the North Cascades Highway
