Students and staff at Bridgeport High School received disappointing news yesterday when the White House announced the winner of the Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge.
It was Booker T. Washington High School, in Memphis, Tenn.
That means President Obama will not be coming to Bridgeport to help celebrate graduation next month. However Washington Governor Christine Gregoire will be speaking at the ceremony and the Whitehouse has promised to send a high level cabinet member as well.
This may seem like a "consolation prize" but it is far from that, it amounts to a special reward for all the hard work done. The staff and students of Bridgeport High School have succeeded in being recognized as one of the top schools in the country.
They're still winners!
