Late Opening for North Cascades Highway 5/11/2011
Record snow fall might be good for the snow pack levels but Department of Transportation’s Jeff Adamson says it’s wreaking havoc with the efforts to clear the North Cascades Highway.

Snow slides have caused crews to move one step back for every two forward.

According to Adamson, what the crews really need is some stable weather…with no more snow. Historically, the latest the pass has opened was June 14th 1974, the year after the pass was completed. Last year, the pass was cleared by March 16th.
