A parent of a Chelan High School track competitor was arrested Monday after an assistant track coach from Chelan was struck in the face on Friday at a Caribou League Track Meet in Cashmere.
X-rays taken by a dentist showed that several of Coach Darren Talley’s teeth had broken free from the supporting bone. Talley also complained of neck pain after the assault but was able to return to work yesterday.
The parent, 45 year old Troy Hawkins of Manson, accused Talley and Andrea Parnell, the Chelan track coach, of lying to the competitors about how relay teams would be put together. During the argument, witness's said Hawkins struck Talley in the jaw with the heel of his hand, snapping Talley’s neck back.
Hawkins was arrested Monday and charged with assault in the 2nd Degree. He was scheduled to make a preliminary appearance yesterday in Superior Court in Wenatchee after spending the night in jail.
