US Forest Service Awards Near $11,000 5/6/2011
The U.S. Forest Service has awarded almost $11,000 for high school students in low-income areas of the Okanogan Valley who are studying the effects of the 2006 Tripod Fire. Coordinator Patti Baumgardner says the funding is intended to support conservation education programs that provide students opportunities to experience the outdoors, learn about nature and build a lasting commitment to conservation.

Sign up is done through the schools, and historically the program has involved students from Omak, Oroville, Tonasket, Bridgeport and Pateros.
