Bill from Senator Parlette Encounters Resistance 5/4/2011
After flying through the Senate, a bill to reign in state debt co-sponsored by Senator Linda Evans Parlette has encountered resistance in the House where the resolution has yet to be brought up for a vote.

Senate Joint Resolution 8215 would tackle the state’s debt payments by gradually reducing the total amount owed for construction projects.

A bipartisan group in the state Senate wants to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot that, if approved, would gradually reduce spending on debt to around 5 percent of state spending.

Negotiators from the House and Senate are expected to meet this week to try to work out a compromise.
