Chelan Mayor Bob Goedde said he was shocked by just how much more commissioners want to extend the city’s contract with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
Goedde said, “The total package is a $300,000 increase, or about 40 percent above the $850,000 we’ve been paying,”
The total annual price would rise to more than $1.1 million for full-time police protection with seven county deputies and RiverCom dispatch service.
County Commissioner Doug England said rising costs make the level of coverage unsustainable at the old contract figures. Commissioners will negotiate new contracts with Chelan, Entiat, Cashmere and Leavenworth this year.
The Commissioners abruptly canceled the existing law enforcement contract that had been in place since 2008, extending through 2013.
