Trailing 2-0 in the NAHL West Division championship series, the Wenatchee Wild needed a win over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs yesterday to keep their season alive.
After a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss in the first game of the series Friday night, the Wild stumbled out of the gate Saturday losing 6-3.
Fairbanks couldn’t complete their three-game sweep over Wenatchee, losing to the Wild 2-1 Sunday night. The teams will head to Wenatchee for game 4 on Thursday night and hopefully a game 5 on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Fairbanks squeaked a puck past Wild goaltender Greg Lewis 17 minutes into the second period. Two minutes into the 3rd and final period, Wenatchee made it a game, knotting the score at one with a goal by DJ Vandercook. The Wild took the lead for good at the 12 minute mark with a goal by Mario Puskarich.
Fairbanks needs only one more win to eliminate the Wild and qualify for the Robertson Cup Championships Playoffs. The teams’ battle again at the Town Toyota Center on Thursday, the puck drops @ 7:05
