It appears that Washington State Special Olympics hasn’t closed the door to bringing the Winter Games back to Wenatchee next year.
However,Special Olympics CEO, Beth Wojik (WOE-Jik) confirms that the organization is looking for an alternative location for the three-day Winter games because she says Wenatchee has become too costly.
Wojic specifically identified costs related to the use of Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort as the main reason for considering a change of venue.
If the Winter Games go away, the City of Wenatchee stands to lose close to a million dollars in sales and hotel tax revenues. City Executive Services Director, Allison Williams says she’s also hopeful that a solution can be found to bring the event back to North Central Washington.
