Methow Irrigation Feud Solved 4/1/2011
More than two decades of litigation, fines and appeals between the state Department of Ecology and the largest irrigation district in the Methow Valley are over.

Ecology and the Methow Valley Irrigation District have announced an agreement that drops three legal disputes, and requires irrigators to comply with a 2004 order that reduces the amount of water diverted from the Twisp River. The reduction will occur incrementally, over the next five years.

The district still has to pay $37,200 in fines and penalties, but can use the money to upgrade its systems instead of seeing the funds go into the state’s general fund.
