Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest fire specialists on the
Wenatchee River Ranger District plan to burn approximately 572 acres in two separate prescribed burn operations over the next two weeks.
The first will be in the Highway 97/Blewett Pass Corridor and the second near Lake Wenatchee over the next few weeks.
The controlled burns will be approximately one mile up the paved portion of Camas Rd, off the Tip Top road system, and in the Mill Creek area located off Mt. Home Road.
Near Lake Wenatchee, the burns are located along the
Chiwawa Loop road between Midway store and Chiwawa River Pines subdivision.
The controlled burns will be very visible and smoke will persist for several days. While local residents will notice the smoke, it is important to reduce the brush and other dangerous fuels in a safe and controlled manner.
The burn is part of the comprehensive Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Restoration Strategy. For more information about prescribed burning please call the Fire Management Department at 509-548-2585.
