The Department of Transportation and various work crews are scrambling to get area highway projects taken care of before the quickly approaching visitors season.
The latest inconvenience for local drivers starts next Tuesday as the Knapp’s Hill Tunnel on Highway 97-A will be closed 24 hours a day for the next two weeks. Assistant Project Engineer Josh Patrick says they’re trying to stay out of people’s way:

The closure will allow crews to perform drainage work on the tunnel that, according to Patrick, will solve problems caused by past practices.
The work is tentatively scheduled for completion within two weeks, and Patrick says there are incentives for the contractor to stay on track:
