Rock Island Dam Update 2/15/2011
Chelan County PUD has achieved its goal to make Rock Island Dam more fish friendly. At their Monday meeting Commissioners were told that the District has successfully complied with the objectives for protecting endangered fish as set forward by its Habitat Conservation Plan. That means that the Dam can continue to operate for the next ten years without changes to spring and summer spill rates. Fish Biologist Keith Trescott explains, the HCP is a long-term agreement that enables the PUD to collaborate with federal and state agencies and tribes to develop the right steps to achieve fish survival targets.

Three years of tests have produced a 93 percent fish survival rate at Rock Island Dam which meets the requirements established by the HCP.
