Reasons for PUD Firings 2/11/2011
Chelan PUD General Manager, John Janney announced this past Monday that two of the fiber-optic project’s top managers had been terminated. Now, we’re getting an opportunity to learn more about the reasons behind the decision.

The changes apparently came down to Janney’s perception that Executive Manager Joe Jarvis and Managing Director John Smith had failed to provide accurate project cost estimates over a long period of time. The fiber program has been beset by cost-overruns and is currently 90 million dollars in debt. Janney says the way to get a firmer handle on costs of the project is to have responsible managers in place.

He also wants to reassure customers who are in the grant funded portion area of the build-out that the project will continue as planned, and that the PUD will continue to look for efficient ways to provide service elsewhere.
