Steven Swinford Remains In Chelan County Justice Center On $1Million Bail 2/3/2011
Steven Swinford of Chelan, remains in the Chelan County Regional Justice Center this morning on $1 million bail. Swinford was formally charged Tuesday in Chelan County Superior Court with the second-degree murder of 22 year old Paul Raney.

Arraignment was set for next Wednesday, February 9th. Arraignment is a formal reading of a criminal complaint in the presence of the defendant to inform the defendant of the charges against him or her. In response to arraignment, the accused is expected to enter a plea. Acceptable pleas vary but they generally include "guilty" or "not guilty". Pleas of “no contest’ and the "Alford plea" are allowed in some circumstances. The arraignment procedure will more than likely include defense arguments of reasons why a trial cannot proceed at this time.

Swinford will be represented by court-appointed attorney, Jeremy Ford. Ford is a primarily a criminal defense attorney practicing in Wenatchee with an office on Chelan Avenue.
