During this week’s Bridgeport Council Meeting, long time mayor Steve Jenkins unexpectedly announced his resignation according to Lisa Stark, Financial director/city clerk.

When asked, Stark stated Mr. Jenkins did not give any reason for his resignation. After serving as the Bridgeport Mayor for over 24 years, Jenkins won the Douglas County Commissioner seat from Mary Hunt during last fall’s election. William Zweigle was selected to serve as interim Mayor.

According to Stark, there is no time frame to appoint a new mayor. In other business, the council agreed to sponsor Bridgeport Daze the 1st Saturday in June. The next Bridgeport council meeting will be Wednesday February 9th.
