Hanford Contractors Say 1,600 Employees To Be Laid Off 1/21/2011
Two Hanford contractors say 1,600 employees will be laid off as $1.96 billion in federal stimulus money ends for cleanup work at the nuclear reservation.

CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. received $1.3 billion for ground water cleanup and is the hardest hit. It told workers Wednesday that it plans two phases of voluntary and involuntary layoffs this summer to cut 1,350 jobs.

Mission Support Alliance told its workers it expects to lay off 300 workers by the end of September. Congressman Doc Hastings says he’s not surprised with the news. As a critic of the Stimulus program Hastings says he could have predicted the layoffs would happen.
