Commissioner Says Severity Of Budget Not Completely Explained 1/13/2011
In response to former Sheriff Mike Harum’s assertion that he kept Chelan County Commissioners informed about an approximate $290,000 projected shortfall, Commissioner Doug England says, the severity of the budget hole was never completely explained to them.

England points out that the commissioners are aware of the fact that departmental budgets will fluctuate throughout the year, but by the time they became aware of the true size of the sheriff department’s shortfall, it was too late. That leaves the Chelan County Commissioners with the unenviable task of finding a way to balance that deficit throughout all the county departments, as they’ve said it would not be fair to balance it solely on the backs of the Sheriff’s Department.
