The results are in from the recent Drive Hammered, Get Nailed enforcement campaign conducted from November 25th through January 2nd of this year.
Seventeen Chelan County motorists and eight Douglas County drivers were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Statewide, law enforcement officers arrested over 3,500 drivers for DUI.
Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says programs like “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” are doing the job of helping to reduce alcohol related deaths:
Impaired drivers killed more than half of the 491 people who died on Washington’s roadways during 2009. The 264 impaired driver-involved deaths last year represent a decrease of nine fatalities compared to the previous five-year average.
