Good news for the business community and workers in North Central Washington…Wenatchee Works-Alcoa Smelter has announced they’re firing up a third pot line and hiring an additional 80 workers.
Wenatchee Works Smelter Manager Nick Winchum says, in addition to satisfying a requirement of the recently signed 17 year power agreement with the Chelan County PUD, it’s an indication things may be turning around a bit. The addition of 80 new workers, including benefits, taxes and such, is expected to add about 100,000 dollars per employee, or a total of about 8 million dollars to the payroll.
Alcoa hopes to have the workforce up to full speed by the end of January.
