An eighth grade student in the Pateros School district died by suicide at his home Wednesday. Superintendent Lois Davies announced the death of Austin Hook in a letter sent home to parents in the district. She wrote, "His tragic death will be greatly felt by all of us. We are shocked and saddened by his death."
The student was active in school, participating in band, football and track.
The district made arrangements for counselors, teachers, and other resources to be available so that students, staff, and parents can get help when they need it.
If you wish to send something to the Hook family, or to otherwise express your condolences, you can call 509-923-2751, ext. 4.
A Friday afternoon Parent Meeting has been scheduled where questions will be taken by school staff and the topic of a memorial service will be discussed. It’s set for 3:30 in the Pateros School library.
