Chelan County campfire restrictions in effect

7/12/2010

Hot, dry weather and increased potential for fire have prompted forest officials to implement campfire restrictions in lower elevations of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Chelan County.

Public Information Officer Susan Peterson explains…

Peterson discusses which cooking devices are permitted…

Campfires are allowed in some places outside of developed campgrounds…

Other areas where campfires are allowed include:

• Summer homes and organizational sites with approved sites and special-use permits;
• Most Wilderness areas, except within two miles of Lake Chelan in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth and Glacier Peak Wilderness.

Campfire restrictions will remain in effect until there is significant moisture to lesson fire danger.
